Waiting for the frostless nights in my garage. The weather is warming up. I hope it will not snow again.

Repotting some trees part 1

The weather is still too bad, but my trees are starting to enlarge their buds. I repotted some of my plants during the Easter vacations. All these plants are now in my garage, they need to be protected against night´s frost.
Počasie je stále zlé, ale moje stromy začínajú nalievať púčiky. Počas veľkonočného voľna som presadil prvú dávku rastlín, ktoré to najviac potrebovali. Všetky tieto rastliny sú teraz v garáži, chránené voči nočným mrazom.

Quite nice trunk base for a future bonsai. I´m really happy with cracked old-looking bark.

Salix Caprea - Vŕba kozia "Rakyta"

Yesterday I worked on this willow. It´s another interesting species. I removed several dead branches and pruned it. Also mushrooms that grow on the trunk since last autumn have been removed. The trunk was then treated with chemical protection against fungal diseases. I know that the bark under the removed mushrooms is dead, but I decided to leave it on the tree, since the new calous will be formed. I just slightly brushed the hard dead wood. The lower branch is little weak because of  large parts of dead wood. It must be strengthen, so I made a new terminal of it. I will leave it grow freely at least two growing seasons.
Včera som pracoval na tejto zaujímavej vŕbe. Odstránil som niekoľko mŕtvych konárikov, ktoré spontánne odišli v zime a celý strom som ostrihal. Od minulej jesene rástli na kmeni drevokazné huby, ktoré boli taktiež odstránené. Kmeň som natrel sulkou. Viem že kmeň a kôra v tejto časti sú mŕtve, nechávam to však tak, pokým sa pod odlupujúcou sa kôrou prirodzene nevyvinie kalus a ohraničí živú časť kmeňa. Mŕtve drevo na strome som iba zľahka prebrúsil oceľovou kefou. Spodná vetva je značne oslabená z rozsiahlych partí mŕtveho dreva nad ňou. Musí byť posilnená, aby poriadne ťahala energiu, tak som z nej vyformoval nový terminál. Tento plánujem ponechať bez rezu aspoň dve rastové sezóny.

Last snow

Blossoms on my willow are almost away,  buds are starting to enlarge, it´s time for repotting, and today a lot of snow came...I hope this is the last snow in this season. It´s cold -3°C, strong wind blows. Last year at this time I already had everything installed on benches.
Bahniatka na vŕbe pomaly odkvitajú, puky sa naliavajú, je čas na presádzanie, a dnes napadol nový sneh. Dúfam že je v tejto sezóne posledný. Je zima, -3°C, fučí silný vietor. Minulý rok o tomto čase som už mal všetko odzimované na laviciach.

Beech No.01 - Buk č.1

This beech was completely rewired last weekend. I´m not fully satisfied with the upper part of the crown. Many branches are too strong and without buds. The tree must be repotted this spring. I´m looking forward to this job, although I know the root system is not perfect. Will see soon...

Minulý víkend som komplet nadrôtoval tento buk. Nie som celkom spokojný s hornou časťou koruny, je tu veľa silných konárikov bez púčikov. Teším sa na jarné presádzanie, aj keď viem že koreňová sústava nie je perfektná. Uvidíme...  :)
